07 Apr RFC Indoor Football – Fairtrade Tournament
Rotherham Football Centre kicked off with a bang on Saturday March 8th hosting a five-a-side indoor football tournament concluding the Fairtrade Fortnight in Rotherham this weekend.
From 10.30am until 4.30pm, around over 120 young people aged from 13 to 19 from across the borough attended the event . Two tournaments were held for under 15s as well as 16-19-year-olds.
In addition to the football, Fairtrade-themed activities were available for the young people taking part. Fairtrade juice, chocolate and bananas were also given out as refreshments and the footballs used were ethically-made Fairtrade ones.
The teams represented were T: Kiveton; Dinnington (New Life Centre and Little Stars); Rush House; Elephant’s In-step Club; Gays United; Wentworth North; P4L4; Khutha Tata; Eastwood (Rebels ,Followers and United),RUFC,Arabic FC and Thornhill.
Winners of the 16-19 year old tournament were Thornhill (Russell Oxley) and runners-up Wentworth North (Trevor Grossett). Winners of the under 15’s tournament were Eastwood United (Jeanette Hamilton) and runners-up were RUFC (Captain David Maco).
Female player of the tournament was Bethany Short (Eastwood Rebels) and Ahmed Akhtar (Aftab) (P4L4).
The Fairplay Team Award went to Dinnington Little Stars (Ange Pugh).
The cuddly toy was won by McKenzie Webb (Gays United) and the’ guess the number of Maltesers’ prize by Bradley Hunt (Wentworth North).
The standard of behaviour on the day was excellent and Elephant’s In-step Club support staff commented on the positive attitudes shown towards their members.
