  • About the RFC Academy

Here at the RFC Academy we understand and recognise the importance to helping develop and improve grassroots football. With recent developments from the FA also in this area in the form of English Football DNA, RFC Academy focus on coaching and developing young talent in the aspects of technical/tactical, physical, psychological as well as from a social standpoint. Ultimately we aid the development and experience of every one of our young trainees and help to provide the best opportunity for them to fulfill their potential.

RFC Academy aims to produce and develop well rounded players that also have a creative flair. Our training techniques and programmes are developed and run by professionals from within the game, we not only focus on skills when players have the ball but also on movements, tactical awareness and building confidence when not on the ball.

Our long term goal is to help and aid the development of young English players right from the very beginning, grassroots football. We at RFC know the importance of having the right environment where talent can flourish and develop thus providing an opportunity for every child to reach their maximum potential. We work in a 3 stage development phase.

Early Years – Fundamentals of the game along with technique and skill based practices are the focus in our first developmental stage of professional coaching. We ingrain professional standard movements such as the ABC in each child by the age of 10 years, we understand the importance of providing the appropriate development cycle for each child on their way to achieving maximum potential in these core fundamentals of the beautiful game. Keeping the ‘fun’ and ‘enjoyment’ element is something that we feel is important throughout the development cycle, with quite more often than not this element being lost way too early by professional clubs.

Foundation – The secondary phase in the development cycle builds on the early years and introduces more progressive challenges with focused skill sessions. Special attention on enhancing the techniques from the early years with repetitive decision making drills, as well as giving the children guided discovery with Q&A style sessions. This phase of the developmental cycle is also imperative as the child can further develop within challenging practices whilst developing the desire for winning.

Youth – This is the progressive phase in the development cycle , where focus is placed upon a systematical tactical practice as well as refining technique and learning the principles behind specific roles within the game. We help and nurture to build the child’s game management experience as well as teaching how to win.
